Thailand Polo win RSPC Masters Polo Tournament
17th Jun 2007

by Juan Pedro Cambiasonathan

Thailand Polo, with Harald Link, Nicholas Kosmatos, Carlos Pando and Hernan Tasso, made a clean sweep the RSPC Masters Polo Tournament, winning all their games and taking the two cups on offer.  They had won their first two games of the tournament.  On Thursday they defeated the previously unbeaten BRDB team coming back with three goals to beat them 8 - 5 1/2.  On Saturday they completed their clean sweep by defeating Ranhill 10 - 2 1/2.

Royal Pahang finished runners-up in the Masters finishing with a record of three wins.  Their only loss was by half a goal to Thailand Polo.  Led by YM Tengku Amir Naseer, Royal Pahang defeated Cameron Highlands 8 - 6 1/2 on Thursday and BRDB 5 - 3 1/2 in the final match of the tournament.  Argentinean 7-Goaler Jose Rivas was outstanding for Royal Pahang throughout the tournament.

BRDB finished in third place in the Masters with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses. BRDB can be satisfied with their attempt at playing a 12-14 goal tournament without any foreign professionals.  Patron Dato' Mohamed Moiz was also fighting a virus that had him bed-ridden between matches.

Cameron Highlands won their final match 9 - 3 against Ranhill.  Craig Wilson and Selby Williamson were the stand-out players in the Cameron Highlands team that was co-patroned by Brian Miller and Hiroshi Kume.

Ranhill Polo lost their 5-Goaler Huzaini Yunos to a torn riding muscle in their first game.  With no higher handicapped replacements, they played a make-shift team with at first Alfredo Rodriguez then Aizam Muhin standing in for Huzaini.  They were not embarrased as they very sportingly continued to battle teams up to 9 goals higher in handicap them themselves.
